I continue to review all sorts of goods from Ikea, which we purchased at the time for giving. All wrote mostly praise, except that the Chinese Ikean knives turned out to be completely nonexistent. Now it's time to make another fly in the ointment!
What made me buy a mattress for a bed - well, of course, the presence of a bed. And why in Ikea?
In general, through trial and error, I realized that it is most convenient to sleep on a solid wooden flooring with a thin 3-5cm foam mattress. That is - I love hard beds.
But for a summer residence we bought a bed with a slatted bottom. And for the rack bottom, of course, a more serious mattress was required. By the way, the wooden beds from Ikea did not suit us, they all had a very high headboard, we didn’t get up, and we bought a bed here.
Well, since I absolutely do not like spring mattresses, and my husband, in principle, agrees to any, I chose from foam and foam-polystyrene options.
The ikeevsky version of Sultan Flataker suited me mainly by the fact that it was compactly packed in a roll
(I still had to carry it to the country), but most importantly, the manufacturer stated that it was a hard mattress.
The mattress was packed in polyethylene, very compact, easily fit even in the trunk.
I only saved data from the mattress itself and a small general instruction for it.
This is how the mattress looks on the bed
On top of the mattress is a cover with a zipper.
This is how it looks from the outside close.
Accordingly, it can be removed and washed, but still I use a mattress cover, because it is much easier to wash it.
Inside, the mattress is similar to regular foam rubber, but if you take data from the Ikea site, about this mattress, then it says something different in composition, namely:
Mattress fabric (cover) - 62% cotton, 38% polyester.
Soft material - polyurethane foam 40 kg / cu. m + polyester wool
Protective fabric - non-woven polypropylene.
Also on the site the dimensions of the mattress are 200x160x12, the weight in the package is 9.9kg.
I will also quote the main advantages of the mattress from the site, because it was on them that I bought it:
- A rigid mattress with contour cells that relieves muscle tension.
- The mattress cover can be machine washed, so it is easy to keep clean.
- The mattress is packed in a roll, it is easy to take it home.
There are Ikea tags on the mattress with the model name in two places.
I did not find any more inscriptions on the mattress, regarding the country of manufacture or washing instructions - there is nothing but the inscription "Swedish design".
The site of Ikea also indicates that the mattress cover can be machine washed at a temperature of 60 degrees.
My paper instructions for the mattress are mainly general recommendations.
It says that a packed mattress completely restores its shape after 72 hours. It is also said that at first it may seem too harsh. And even at the beginning of operation, the mattress may have a smell, which then disappears, so that it leaves faster. The instruction advises to vacuum the mattress and air it. (however, we didn’t have any smells from the mattress at all)
The service life is also indicated 25 years, but recommendations to change the mattress every 8-10 years.
We have just the mattress approaching the return of 8 years, except that we do not sleep on it constantly, mainly from May to November - weekends, sometimes vacation. In winter, we rarely visit the country. In any case, the mattress feels and looks like new. This is his undoubted plus.
One undoubted minus of the mattress that only I feel is that the mattress itself is in no way rigid and has never been! Apart from me, my husband sleeps on the mattress, when we went on vacation, my parents visited the cottage, sometimes guests came - everyone is comfortable! Everyone actually also agreed that it felt like a mattress is not rigid.
It’s not very convenient for me alone, a lover of really hard mattresses.
What can I say at the end - the mattress is high-quality, durable, inexpensive (I don’t remember the price now, something about 4000-5000r), easy to care for and transport to the cottage. But only if you definitely need a hard mattress - I do not recommend it, and in general I would advise you to be careful with the IKEY mattresses on which “hard” is indicated. If it’s not important, according to other parameters there are no complaints about the mattress, you can buy. Since the mattress does not fulfill its main declared function, the score is 3 points, and then only because otherwise it is very well made. It is precisely for this that my recommendation is more likely to be “yes,” because everyone has different preferences regarding items for sleeping, maybe it will be as comfortable on it for you as for all my other relatives and friends.
Thank you all for your attention! Comfortable relaxation and sweet dreams!
Features and Benefits
A Dutch company with Swedish roots, the Ikea brand, has been manufacturing and selling various household products for over 60 years. Mattresses are one of the key areas of this company. Among the wide range of products, the following types of these products are offered to the attention of buyers:
- spring,
- springless
- latex
- polyurethane foam,
- thin.
The key rule of the company is quality that meets the needs of the modern customer. The policy of this brand is very interesting: having bought a mattress, you have the right to return it within 90 days from the date of purchase. It is important to keep the sales receipt, warranty sheet and not damage the product. In addition, Ikea provides consumers with a 25-year warranty on their sleep and leisure products. Often these two factors become key when choosing a mattress of a particular brand. Another convenience guaranteed to customers when buying Ikea mattresses is that you can immediately take the product home without waiting for delivery. Any mattress, no matter what material its base is made of, is rolled up by the seller and packaged in a vacuum package. At the hands of the buyer receives a very convenient and compact package.
For a complete restoration of the form, it will take about 3-4 days.
The advantages of Ikea mattresses are undeniable:
- in the manufacture of orthopedic mattresses are taken into account physiological features human body structure
- some models (both spring and springless) consist of 5-7 zones, which guarantees a more comfortable stay,
- as part of most models there is a layer of wool of sheepwhich does not let moisture in and maintains a uniform temperature throughout the product,
- the product is suitable for both summer and winter time of the year,
- removable case easily removed and washed at a water temperature of not more than 60 degrees,
- various hardness levels (medium hard and hard),
- thanks to a wide range of products, even the most demanding customers will find a product that meets their wishes.
Models
As already noted, the Ikea brand produces mattresses of various designs and types. Accordingly, the range of products presented in stores is quite large. From such a rich assortment, we can distinguish models that are most liked by modern customers: “Hamnvik”(“ Hagavik ”or“ Hamnwick ”),“Harestua"(" Harestua "),"Headfors"(" Headforce "),"Flatoker"(" Flatocker "),"Florvog"(" Florvog "),"Heberg"(" Heberg "),"Huglo"(" Hooglo "),"Aidswol" and others.
Materials
It is necessary, of course, to note the quality of the materials used to make Ikea orthopedic mattresses. Perhaps you need to start with the outer layer. Mattress fabric is a material composed of cotton and polyester. The percentage is almost equal, but a little more polyester. Cotton provides better air circulation and does not allow moisture to pass; polyester guarantees the durability and high wear resistance of the product.
Spring products are made on the basis of Bonnel type spring blocks, which over the years of operation have managed to prove themselves from the best side. Steel is used as a coil spring.
The basis of latex and polyurethane models is polyurethane foam 23-25 kg per 1 cubic meter. meter, cotton wool polyester, non-woven polypropylene. The peculiarity of this material is that the mattress easily takes on the shape of the human body, which contributes to a more comfortable rest. The original appearance is restored in just a few minutes.
Colors
For Ikea mattresses, calm and neutral colors will be characteristic. Most products are made in white or milk color. If you are looking for some more practical color, then pay attention to those models whose outer layer is sewn from fabrics of dark colors. In stores you can find mattresses in dark beige, gray and blue-gray.
Dimensions
Regardless of which type of mattress the consumer prefers, Ikea tried to diversify the model range in various sizes. So, the most common options include mattresses in sizes 80x200, 90x200, 140x200, 160x200, 180x200 cm. Pay attention to the height of the product. Today in stores you can find mattresses with a height of 10 cm. The higher the mattress, the more layers in it or the higher the spring / polyurethane foam block.
If you are in search of a children's mattress, then it is better to abandon the idea of buying a model with a high spring unit. Children quickly realize that such a mattress can serve as a good home trampoline.
A thin mattress, which is often used as a mattress cover, is in high demand. The relatively inexpensive cost of such models attracts buyers' attention.
Quality Reviews
When choosing an orthopedic mattress, an important role is played by the reviews of those people who have tested this or that modification in action. As it turned out, despite many years of positive reputation in the world market, Ikea brand products can leave unpleasant impressions about themselves. Unfortunately, today there are many complaints about the quality of both spring and springless mattresses.
For example, most often with spring models there are problems of the following plan:
- formation of knolls and pits as a result of subsidence of springs,
- damage to the fabric base due to protruding springs,
- unpleasant sensations and a feeling of discomfort during rest (in some places the body falls into the formed cavities or bulging springs so much revel in the sides that it is almost impossible to sleep),
- not suitable for spouses of different complexions.
And these are the reviews of those buyers who, a few months ago, were happy with the purchase. Accordingly, it can be assumed that the manufacturer’s statement about the long life of the mattress is not true.
There are also many complaints about the specific smell of the new mattress. According to users, sometimes it was necessary to weather the mattress for 2-3 weeks. Particularly careful and cautious should be those people who have a tendency to various allergic reactions.
However, according to the results of research centers that conducted a consumer survey, it was found that about 68% of the participants in the experiment were satisfied with the purchase and recommend Ikea mattresses. The main positive aspects include a large warranty period, good health after sleep and, of course, the cost of mattresses.

General characteristics
Ikea offers its customers a series of Sultan mattresses made of modern materials using innovative technologies. The collection presents models
- spring
- springless
- latex
- polyurethane foam,

Products are presented in budget and luxury categories.
The Sultan collection is made in Russia using the technology of a Dutch company with Swedish roots. The production of sleep products is one of the activities of the company, which has been presenting its products on the world market for over 60 years.
The mattresses use spring blocks, high-quality natural and artificial fillers. For spring mattresses, blocks with independent springs with a different number of springs per bed are used. Their elasticity depends on this indicator.
For models with a high and moderate degree of hardness, natural latex is selected as a filler. This material gives the product anatomical properties, and thanks to the ventilation system provides comfortable conditions for a good rest.
Types of mattresses Sultan
The Sultan mattress collection is represented by five types of models that meet different requirements for the elasticity of sleeping surfaces. The lineup includes

Mattresses Sultan from Ikea deserve only positive reviews. Customers who have chosen this manufacturer’s sleep products note
- product durability
- Affordable price

Some buyers show dissatisfaction with subsiding springs or, conversely, bulging. Defects are covered by the 25-year warranty that the manufacturer provides. A dissatisfied buyer can always replace a failed mattress with a new one.
For all models of Sultan mattresses, IKEA provides a 25-year warranty.
The IKEA Sultan lineup is an optimal ratio of price and quality, a great opportunity to purchase a sleep product made according to European standards.
Characteristics of a series of mattresses Sultan: how to choose
The group includes several varieties of mattresses, differing in degrees of rigidity and the material from which they are made. This allows the buyer to choose a mattress that is right for him.
In order not to get lost in a wide assortment and make the right choice, IKEA makes it possible to "live" test mattresses.
But in order to reduce choice and save time, it is better to know in advance what each mattress is made of. Sultan mattresses are made of the following materials:
- Latex
This is an elastic foundation, thanks to which the mattress will easily take on the shape of the body and instantly restore its previous shape as soon as they rise from it. It has the property of shock absorption of movements (softening the power of shocks and shaking), which keeps a calm sleep. Latex allows moisture to evaporate evenly, so that the temperature regime is not violated,
- Polyurethane foam
A mattress with a polyurethane foam base is similar in its properties to the previous one. Like his brother, he is resilient and able to absorb shock. The softest material, but at the same time it has sufficient rigidity to evenly distribute the weight of the whole body, without failing in separate areas. It has a memory function, repeating the shape of the spine, thereby improving blood circulation.
- Springs
The good old spring mattress is still popular even after many years. Thanks to the spring system, it is the most durable of all three types of mattresses, and it will last for many years. It is unpretentious, it can be turned over and sleep on any of its sides. Due to its design, the mattress is evenly ventilated and does not contribute to the accumulation of moisture, for a long time remaining in working condition. Such a base evenly distributes the body weight over all surfaces, does not press on individual areas.
The entire group of mattresses is presented in various degrees of rigidity, divided into:
In order to choose the degree of rigidity correctly, relying not only on our own feelings, a table has been developed that takes into account the weight and height of the buyer. The stiffness is also influenced by the favorite sleeping position: for those who like to sleep on their sides, soft mattresses are selected, and for those who sleep on their backs or stomachs, they are more rigid. Upholstery material - knitted quilted at synthetic winterizer.
The company provides a 25-year warranty on all Sultan mattresses.
How buyers respond
In general, the reviews on Sultan mattresses, as well as on most of the IKEA products, are positive. Mattresses meet the declared qualities, consumers note their convenience and pleasant appearance. It is comfortable to sleep on Sultan mattresses, pain in the back and muscles after sleep does not appear.
The disadvantages of the mattress are often attributed to its unpleasant smell after unpacking. Despite the fact that the manufacturer positions the mattress as a product that can be used four days after unpacking, most buyers have to ventilate for two weeks. The network also contains more serious shortcomings of mattresses, which are indicated by consumers. In particular, this is their fragility, inability to choose a double sleeping mattress for people with different parameters, as well as damage to the upholstery due to bulging springs.
Despite the variegated feedback from customers, IKEA products are in great demand and, undoubtedly, have their positive sides. A wide selection, relatively low prices and overall product quality make IKEA a tycoon among manufacturers of home goods. Whether to buy a Sultan mattress or not, it is up to the buyer only, but it will be easier to make a choice if you try the products on yourself - IKEA gives such an opportunity.

- Sagging springs (pits and knolls form).
- Discomfort (springs stick out, felt when lying).

Another disadvantage is the presence of a pronounced chemical smell. According to manufacturers, an unpleasant "aroma" is considered the norm within 10-14 days after purchase. Some products from Ikea had to be aired for a month, or put on the balcony.

Earlier it was said that in the context you can see that this product has three inner layers. In addition to this, other components are used in the mattress that cover it:
- The mattress packing is made not only of pure polyurethane foam, but also with the addition of special polyester cotton wool. Such a mix of filler provides convenience, softness, comfort and durability of the product. Such a mattress allows not only to completely relax, but also competently supports the body.
- Independent spring unit with pocket springs. Steel springs are placed in individual bags, which eliminates the "wave effect". Even if someone jumps on one side of the product, the other half will remain alone. In addition, it is such a mechanism of the spring block that allows the mattress to withstand quite a lot of weight.
- The upholstery material to the touch is very delicate, smooth and pleasant, it is made of special mattress fabric with various compositions. So, the upholstery of the sides and the upper part of the mattress is a mixture of polyester and cotton, and the lower part of the product is upholstered with a fabric made only of polyester.
- The special lining is made of non-woven polypropylene; it has high water-repellent characteristics.
All these materials have passed the necessary studies and received the relevant certificates, which once again proves their high quality and safety.
