Fireplaces

Barbecue fireplace

The presence in the summer cottage of a special corner where you can cook delicacies on fire, solves many problems of rest. When leaving the country, you need to take with you only all the necessary products, and the place where they are fried will always be ready.

DIY fireplace grill

It’s very easy to build a fireplace with a do-it-yourself barbecue on a site convenient for owners. The design of such a structure is quite accessible for execution in the presence of the necessary materials, tools and masonry schemes.

What is a barbecue fireplace?

The popularity of barbecue fireplaces is explained by the versatility of these summer cottage accessories. Such a structure becomes the center of the recreation area, arbors or awnings, comfortable places for seating are arranged around it.

Having such an area with a barbecue fireplace, where you can cook barbecue, barbecue or grill, you can organize a holiday in any weather. Spending time in the fresh air is especially nice if you can spend it in comfortable conditions near a live fire. In addition, the fireplace-brazier will become a worthy decoration of any landscape and an integral element of its design, since such structures fit perfectly into the natural environment.

Such fireplaces are not much different in design and appearance from indoor fireplaces. Its simplest version consists of a foundation, directly the fireplace of the fireplace-barbecue and a chimney.

If there is an opportunity and desire to complicate the structure, you can additionally arrange an oven around it, a hob with a hole for the cauldron, grill, as well as a sink and a cutting table. Be that as it may, the fireplace-grill will always remain the center of the whole composition.

You can decorate the building with various natural finishing materials, for example, stone tiles, decorative stone or tile.

Types of barbecue fireplaces

Outdoor barbecue fireplaces can be of several types:

  • Detached buildings without hoods and roofs, more reminiscent of ordinary barbecues, but built of brick and have a niche for firewood.
  • Also, free-standing barbecue fireplaces having a stone or metal chimney. These buildings, with appropriate design, will resemble fabulous stoves.
  • These buildings can be in combination with other useful devices for cooking various goodies on a summer vacation.
  • Braziers-fireplaces are located both under the roof in summer buildings, and separately from them.
  • You can also separate them in shape - they can be semicircular, triangular, square or round, and also have exclusive asymmetrical outlines.

Masonry tools

If you decide to independently build such a barbecue fireplace on the site, make sure that you have all the necessary tools for this. For work you will need:

Barbecue fireplace masonry tools

  • a container for mixing the solution,
  • shovel and bayonet shovels,
  • rubber mallet and pickaxe hammer,
  • trowel (trowel),
  • flashing
  • folding meter
  • level,
  • elbow
  • plumb.

Materials

Since the fireplace will be outdoors, it will be negatively affected by external factors such as wind, rain, dust and ultraviolet rays. That is why there is a need not to take the cheapest, but to turn to quality construction products. To build you will need:

  • Red brick,
  • silicate brick for the furnace,
  • cement, sand, pebbles, crushed stone,
  • metal reinforcement for the foundation,
  • formwork boards,
  • facing material (optional),
  • metal corner 50 × 50 cm,
  • waterproofing sheet.

These are the basic materials that are needed for the simplest design. If you decide to provide this complex with additional functions, then you may need other construction, plumbing and finishing materials.

Foundation

  • At the preparatory stage of its construction, a foundation pit is being excavated, the depth of which will depend on the massive structure and soil composition. The average depth of the pit, repeating the outlines of the base of the future structure, is 40 cm.

A quality foundation is needed

  • At the bottom of the pit, a pillow of crushed stone or gravel is laid and well tamped. The thickness of this layer should be between 15 and 35 cm.
  • The next step is the installation of formwork for pouring concrete mortar.
  • A reinforcing structure is installed - it can be welded or simply pulled together with stainless wire.
  • For the upper part of the foundation, a solution consisting of sand and cement 3 × 1 is mixed. If for some reason the foundation pit digs deeper, then it is poured in two layers, in different solutions: the bottom is pebbles and cement, and the top is sand and cement. The reinforcing mesh should pass through both arranged layers.
  • The upper part of the foundation is aligned with horizontal beacons and left to dry.
  • Next, a sheet of waterproofing material is lined on top of the base, on which the first row of brickwork will be laid.

Masonry of the walls of the fireplace

Brazier fireplace is laid out according to a pre-compiled scheme and plan. If the master carries out such work for the first time and does not have experience in this art, it is better to use ready-made, already proven schemes. In this case, we can consider one of the examples of simple constructions, the intricacies of which are quite understandable.

One of the simple designs of the fireplace

This option can be installed both under the roof in the gazebo or on the terrace, or in the open. It is convenient for its compactness and simplicity. At the same time, this model provides all the maximum possible functions for it. The design allows you to arrange a brazier for barbecue and barbecue, and also, if desired, grill, if at the level of the third row of the fireplace insert make holes for the skewer.

The ordinal masonry of the fireplace-grill is clearly visible on the diagram, focusing on which, you can easily cope with this responsible work.

The ordinal layout of the calculation of the lower part

  • The first row is laid out solid, but you need to follow the pattern of laying bricks.
  • Further, until the fifth row, everything is arranged according to the scheme. On the fifth row, it is necessary, to support the bricks of the next row, to fix a metal corner or strip, since the sixth and seventh rows will be solid.
  • The eighth, ninth and tenth rows have the same configuration and are placed in accordance with the scheme.

From 10 rows and above

  • The eleventh row will also require metal stripes or corners.
  • The twelfth and thirteenth should have a continuous surface.
  • From the fourteenth to the nineteenth row, silicate brick is laid inside the firebox - it is installed on the edge.
  • On the twenty-first row it is also necessary to establish a corner, since the masonry of the chimney will go further, where the rows are arranged with an offset inside the structure - this continues to the twenty-eighth row.
  • Then, work is carried out on the pipe device according to the provided scheme.
  • An umbrella must be mounted on the pipe above so that moisture cannot penetrate the chimney cavity.

General recommendations

  • In order for the result of the work to be successful, it is necessary to adhere to some tips that will help you navigate in the process of constructing the structure.
  • After installing the foundation, take your time, wait until it completely dries. This will require about fourteen days (sometimes more), depending on the thickness of its concrete layer.
  • In the absence of experience in such work, do not be lazy and fold the entire fireplace barbecue without a solution. This will help to understand the entire internal structure.
  • Each row also must first be laid without mortar - this process is necessary in order to select the bricks by size, and if necessary, shorten one or more of them.
  • It is very important to control the evenness of angles, horizontal and vertical surfaces. This is done using a level corner, a plumb line.
  • If the fireplace will not be decorated with finishing material, jointing must be done immediately, without waiting for the mortar to solidify.
  • For the laying of silicate brick used in the furnace, a special sand-clay mortar is used.
  • After complete completion of the work, the whole structure should dry well before it can be used to prepare your favorite delicacies. This will take ten to fourteen days.

On the video attached to the article, the home master shares his experience of constructing a barbecue fireplace with his own hands. Although there are critical reviews of such a project, however, this is a fully functional and uncomplicated option:

Barbecue fireplaces in the landscape of the site

Having caught fire in building a fireplace, think over everything carefully and objectively evaluate your strengths, choose a place for its installation. Only after that you can determine the type of construction.

To help you choose your fireplace model, there are a few interesting options. These are the simplest fireplaces, and more complex ones that have many useful functions.

The simplest building, accessible even to beginners

This is the simplest option of a barbecue fireplace, which even a novice can lay down. For him, it will not be necessary to arrange a deep foundation, since the construction is not very massive. It can be laid out from any brick, as it has a decorative finish. An important condition will be the laying of the firebox - in any case, it should be made of silicate brick.

The top barbecue has a grill on which the products for frying will be placed. In the furnace, you can even arrange a grill, as its area and volume allow you to do this. To do this, you need to make holes in the walls through which you can skip the skewer. The outer surface of the walls is decorated with limestone tiles, which turns the structure into a decorative decoration of the site. The only drawback of this barbecue is that for the winter time it is necessary to cover it with a waterproof fabric or film.

Barbecue fireplace under a canopy - rain is not terrible

This version of the fireplace is more complex in construction, and is installed in a furnished place under the roof. Next to it is a cutting table and sink. The brazier is equipped with a metal grill enclosing the coals, which is extremely convenient for laying skewers or fried foods on top. The fireplace is completely made of silicate brick, which will allow it to last a long time. In the niche provided in the lower part of the structure, a stock of firewood can be laid. Despite the more complex design, such a fireplace-grill will also not be difficult to build - you only need to pre-calculate the entire structure and the necessary materials.

Center for a cozy corner for outdoor recreation

In this case, a complex consisting of benches and a table is arranged around the fireplace-grill, which is convenient for vacationers. Everything is decorated with natural materials - stone and wood, they support the merger of the complex with the environment. In this design there are no special difficulties in execution, it is similar to the above-described orderly scheme, except for a chimney made of metal.

Of the functions here are barbecue and barbecue, although the structure has all the features to additionally arrange a grill. I would like to draw attention to the area in front of the fireplace - it was originally laid with wooden round timber. The designer did a good job of decorating the composition and and he really picked up the decoration of the fireplace itself and home-made garden furniture.

For the most sophisticated in construction - multifunctional construction

And the latter would like to bring a multifunctional complex, which includes a barbecue fireplace. This is a complex structure, and for its execution requires work experience and a well-thought-out scheme.

In this embodiment, next to the fireplace, there is an oven for baking bread or baking meat, a stove with a hob on which you can cook any dish, including a real Uzbek pilaf in a cast iron cauldron, set to an open fire.

This complex will require more costs and time for its construction, but thanks to it you can surprise guests with a variety of delicious dishes.

What is a fireplace grill

Why are barbecue fireplaces so popular? The fact is explained very simply - the versatility of accessories for the garden is indescribable. These buildings quickly become the center of the recreation area, places around which arbors are arranged, benches and a swing are set for seating.

Owning a barbecue fireplace, you can cook barbecue, barbecue, grill, you can organize a holiday in any weather. The time spent in the fresh air, near the fire of the fireplace-barbecue, will be remembered for a long time, will cheer up, energize. In addition, this device will be an excellent decoration of the landscape, as it fits perfectly into the natural setting.

Externally, barbecue fireplaces are not too different from fireplaces erected in enclosed spaces. This is the same foundation, a firebox for firewood and a chimney, nothing supernatural.

If you wish, if possible, you can make the structure more complex by arranging a table around it, a sink, an oven with a hob. A cauldron will fit in its hole, where various goodies will be prepared. Thus, in one place you can build a whole kitchen. Be that as it may, the center of the composition will always be a barbecue fireplace.

You can decorate the building with various finishing materials of natural origin, for example, stone tiles or tile.

Varieties of barbecue fireplaces

In addition to the purely practical properties that a barbecue oven will have, it is necessary to remember its aesthetic characteristics. Beautiful barbecues are a real decoration of even the most sophisticated landscapes. Brick structures look especially impressive. They look great on any site, multifunctional, strong and durable.

Since fireplaces are designed for space heating, this factor should be taken as a basis. It makes no sense to heat the street, spending firewood for no good. It is better to adapt the barbecue for the gazebo, even if it is open type. Part of the heat will still remain under its roof. Also a good solution is to build a brick barbecue in the immediate vicinity of the terrace.

At the place of installation, fireplace mantles can be as follows:

  1. Standing separately without a canopy and chimney. Outwardly they practically do not differ from the simplest barbecues. The only difference is the presence of an open hearth.
  2. Standing separately with a chimney and a roof. Similar buildings look very impressive. When properly designed, they look like a stove from a fairy tale.
  3. Combined with one of the buildings on the site. Attach a barbecue to the house, gazebo, porch or bathhouse. Less commonly, outdoor barbecue fireplaces are built next to garages or barns.

Braziers are made with a hearth of steel, brick or stone. Metal structures are decorated with art forging. Stone and brick themselves look pretty pretty, they are rarely finished.

An outdoor stove can have a wide variety of shapes. Depending on the size and layout of the site, stoves of this configuration are built:

  • semicircular
  • triangular
  • square
  • trapezoidal
  • with broken lines.

In small buildings, it is better to install a corner barbecue. In addition to saving floor space, such a structure looks compact and neat.Tables and shelves can be made folding, using them only for the duration of cooking and feasts near the barbecue.

Any combined barbecue is done in stages. Let us dwell on the sequence of construction of this structure.

Construction design

The basis for the success of any event is proper planning, the right choice of building materials and precise adherence to technology and safety measures during work. Initially, you need to decide on the place where the furnace will be installed. After this, you should draw up diagrams and drawings of each element of the barbecue.

Information on such structures is displayed on paper:

  • foundation,
  • the order of each fragment
  • fireplace,
  • frying oven
  • chimney,
  • roof.

If it is planned to create a universal frying complex, then an oven, a smokehouse and a hob with an opening for a cauldron are additionally developed. There is a washstand, sink and cutting tables.

Based on the data obtained, the calculation of building materials is carried out. They are purchased with a small margin of 10-15% to cover errors in the calculations, for marriage and damage during transportation.

Tools and materials

As a rule, in every workshop, pantry or garage there are all the necessary tools for the construction of a barbecue with a fireplace.

For this work you will need:

  • welding machine,
  • Bulgarian,
  • roulette,
  • level,
  • hammer,
  • mallet,
  • shovel and bayonet shovel,
  • Master OK,
  • putty knife,
  • elbow
  • flashing
  • plumb.

If you plan to finish the brick with ceramic tiles, you will need a device for its cutting. The construction of a chimney and a canopy is impossible without a folding stepladder.

It is necessary to purchase the following materials:

  • Red brick,
  • fireclay brick
  • sand,
  • cement,
  • crushed stone
  • clay
  • fittings
  • formwork boards,
  • steel corner 50x50 mm,
  • roofing material.

If you plan to install water supply and sewerage, then you need to purchase plastic pipes, fittings and fittings.

Foundation construction

Since even the simplest barbecue grills weigh hundreds of kilograms, they need a reliable and solid foundation. Such is the reinforced concrete foundation.

This building is being equipped in the following sequence:

  1. Tracing of the terrain. A foundation pit is excavated at a depth of 40-60 cm (depending on the type of soil and masonry mass). The pit should protrude beyond the contours of the brazier by 15 cm in all directions. The bottom of the pit is leveled and compacted.
  2. The pit is covered with a pillow of sand and gravel. The thickness of the layer is 15-20 cm. The pillow is leveled and liberally moistened with water.
  3. Formwork is installed. The boards are fixed so that their upper edge rises above the ground by 10 cm. This will allow raising the foundation above it by at least 5 cm.
  4. Going to the frame of the reinforcement. Iron rods are welded together, twisted with aluminum wire or pulled together with plastic ties.
  5. A concrete solution of water, gravel, sand and cement is mixed in a ratio of 4: 4: 3: 1. It is continuously poured into the formwork. As the pit is filled from the solution with a steel rod, air bubbles are removed. The surface of the foundation is leveled with a spatula and rule.

In order for concrete to gain full strength, it takes 15-25 days. All this time it needs to be periodically moistened. In summer, the foundation needs to be covered with a dense cloth to avoid its uneven heating and cracking.

Spreading barbecue with fireplace

This structure is assembled according to pre-made routines. To check the correctness of calculations in practice, it is advisable for novice masters to lay bricks in a masonry without mortar. It will take time and energy, but the prospects for work will be clear.

The laying of the fireplace with a barbecue is carried out according to this technology:

  1. Waterproofing is laid on the foundation. Just one layer of roofing material or several layers of dense cellophane.
  2. The first row is laid out. Bricks are laid on the edge along the entire contour of the base of the barbecue. A solution of cement, sand and water (1: 3: 3) is used.
  3. Masonry is carried out in accordance with the scheme. After the fifth row, steel corners and rods are fixed on top of the masonry.
  4. The frying chamber of the barbecue is laid out. For this, refractory fireclay bricks or pavers are used. The height of the front wall is half brick. Masonry is made on clay mortar.
  5. After the masonry is finished, the corner is fixed again on top of the brick. On top of it, a chimney or stove with a hole for the exit of smoke is installed.

If it is not planned to facing the brickwork, then it is necessary to immediately carry out the jointing and cleaning of the bricks. After the solution solidifies, it will be extremely difficult to do.

Chimney arrangement

The chimney with a pipe is not necessary to install in a separate barbecue. But if these structures are attached to the gazebo or terrace, then the smoke must be removed. Otherwise, the meal will turn into suffering from inhalation of corrosive combustion products.

You can make a chimney using one of the methods:

  1. Lay it out of bricks. This is a job that requires accurate calculation and certain skills. The masonry gradually narrows, forming a truncated pyramid. On top of the truncated top, a pipe with a wall thickness of half a brick is laid out.
  2. Assemble yourself from concrete slabs. Pre-made patterns of plywood. Once sized, they are used as the bottom for formwork. Fittings fit into the mold and lightweight concrete is poured. Protruding pieces of reinforcement are left on each side of the plate. After the solution has solidified, the plates are installed on the barbecue and connected by welding. Slots are covered with cement mortar. You can close the unsightly surface of concrete with clinker tiles.
  3. Laying bricks on a steel frame, which is made of reinforcement. The frame is made in the form of a pyramid or cone. The rods are welded every 10 cm for laying the bricks laid on the edge. On top of the reinforcement, brick is laid on the cement mortar. The protruding fragments are cut off by the grinder after the solution has hardened.

Built brazier with fireplace should stand alone for at least a month. This is necessary in order for moisture to completely evaporate from it. If it’s damp on the street, you can speed up the drying process by burning various materials in the fireplace that do not produce intense heat. It can be rags, old newspapers, fallen leaves or tops. So that drying time is not wasted, it is advisable to spend it on arranging the barbecue with various accessories. Water and electricity are supplied to the hearth. A canopy is installed, lighting devices are connected. Firewood is being prepared, furniture is made and installed.

Popular views

According to some parameters, it is possible to classify barbecue fireplaces and describe each view in more detail.

  • Outdoor street fireplaces. They are not equipped with a chimney and in principle resemble an iron barbecue. The brick building makes them stationary and can allow you to store firewood in a special compartment.
  • Separate brick fireplaces with barbecue chimney. These models do not differ from the above, but the chimney allows you to install them under the roof of the terrace. With this approach, rest with barbecue is provided in any weather.
  • Fireplace complexes, which include a hob, hearth, grill, barbecue. They are characterized by large dimensions, but are designed specifically for summer cottages.
  • Wall and corner fireplace barbecue. Such a division into species is most often used to describe the device. They stand out in a separate group only due to the peculiar form, but they perform identical tasks and can even have the same fireboxes.

Foundation arrangement

Brick barbecue fireplaces, like any similar construction, require a reliable foundation - the foundation. But compared with a classic fireplace, its mass is an order of magnitude smaller, so the depth of the foundation pit is limited to 40 centimeters. A mixture of sand and gravel spills out to the bottom of the pit. This pillow should have a thickness of 25 cm. Exact adherence to the specified parameter is not required.

Formwork is constructed from boards. After installing it, the foundation is poured with a solution. The solution should be prepared in proportions of 3 to 1. Sand and cement in appropriate proportions may contain large impurities. They will have to be sieved at further stages, but for now this is not necessary.

The height of the foundation should correspond to the floor level, if it is a fireplace in the room and 10 cm in the case of an open model. The most important condition that must be met is that the top surface of the flooded foundation should be set horizontally. Check this moment, you can build level. At the last stage, the finished foundation is covered with a sheet of roofing material and dries. The time of complete solidification of the solution over the entire thickness is 2-3 weeks.

Walling

In the absence of experience, it is recommended to use the developed schemes for the construction of the barbecue. They do not carry any secrets, just to get a solid firebox with the possibility of installing a grate and a brazier, you need to properly bind the bricks. After laying 2-3 layers, you will have to take a short break, otherwise the severity of the entire fireplace will fall on the lower layer of the not yet hardened solution.

So, after the foundation has completely hardened, you can start laying the brazier.

  • The construction is carried out in half a brick, as it is not subject to heavy loads. Complex fireplaces are already being built in brick. Strength will create a mismatch method. It implies a shift of all bricks by half a brick cyclically.
  • When forming one row, before moving on to the next, do not forget to insert fasteners for shelves and gratings. To do this, metal products or bricks are used, laid perpendicular to the row and forming protrusions inside the furnace. If you lose sight of this nuance, you will have to dismantle the entire barbecue.
  • A brazier is mounted on the fasteners made. It should have openings through which the air necessary for combustion will flow.

The considered design of the furnace structure is the simplest and can be complicated by closed structures. But the first independent work with complex options should not begin, because the complication leaves a certain imprint on almost all parameters: the formation of a row, jumpers, the number of rows, etc.

Useful Tips for Beginners

In the algorithm of actions, it is impossible to convey all the subtleties of the work of a mason or an experienced stove-maker. Therefore, it is necessary to listen to some tips that will help in difficult times.

  • Despite the fact that the foundation hardens from the outside the very next day, you can not rush to start laying the walls. Throughout its depth, it has not yet matured and may subsequently collapse. You will have to wait at least two weeks.
  • Do not rush to lay bricks on the mortar. Do not be lazy and stack it with bricks alone. The general idea, in addition to the available step-by-step instructions, contributes to a better job.
  • Starting a new series, it is necessary to try on bricks. It may be necessary to trim one or more bricks. Then, in the established order, a series is laid out already with the use of a solution.
  • Take on board instruments that allow you to control the vertical and horizontal planes and ribs of the assembled frame. The ideality of these parameters increases the aesthetics of the appearance and structural strength.
  • It should be noted that the neatly laid facing brick looks great, thanks to a peculiar texture. Many designers decorate the walls with materials stylized as bricks. The novice master may make mistakes in the tab. Hide them will help additional decorative finish fireplace barbecue with special materials. But if the picture turned out to be neat, then immediately after finishing the masonry, proceed to cutting the seams.
  • Refractory brick, from which the furnace itself is made, should be laid on clay mortar. It takes several days to prepare, this is due to the need for soaking and sifting clay. Sand should also have a fine structure. Adding water to the mixture, it is necessary to achieve a consistency in which the solution does not stick, if you take it by hand, and at the same time retains its shape.
  • It is impossible to commission the barbecue immediately. The masonry freezes for about another two weeks.

To decorate the surface of the fireplace, tiles of decorative stone are usually used. This material is affordable and gives the fireplace a great look with its own style. The tile is attached by adhesive. It is now available for sale ready-made. For street models, a natural finish is recommended - red brick.

Varieties of Fireplaces

Open fire barbecue fireplaces are divided:

  • Detached street buildings without a roof and the presence of hoods, similar to ordinary barbecues, but made of brick with a provided niche for firewood.
  • Units with a stone or metal chimney. For many, these barbecue fireplaces are often associated with fabulous stoves.
  • Barbecue fireplaces in conjunction with other appliances for cooking on fire.
  • Braziers-fireplaces located under the roof of summer buildings.

In addition, barbecue fireplaces can be divided according to their design features - they can be triangular, semicircular, square and round, there are also exclusive asymmetrical devices.

Barbecue fireplace - pros and cons

The veranda will not withstand a brick fireplace with barbecue, and for a gazebo it is too heavy a structure, therefore a very strong foundation is needed that cannot be influenced by enormous weight. It is necessary to ensure that it does not precipitate or skew, otherwise it can provoke deformation of the entire structure.

The foundation should not be allowed to sag and skew, as they can lead to the complete destruction of the entire structure.

But despite everything, braziers have a number of advantages. They are:

The design allows you to cook any dishes, of any complexity. As a result: in the summer, the gazebo is easily transformed into a cozy summer kitchen, where in the evening the whole family can gather at one table.

But even in such a barrel of honey there is a fly in the ointment.

The disadvantages of barbecue fireplaces include:

  • the cost of construction is quite high relative to other materials,
  • the structures are very heavy, therefore they need a solid foundation, which also affects the wallet of the future owner,
  • the need for the manufacture of a chimney.

The main work on the construction of a barbecue fireplace

Barbecue can not be laid out on the eye. It is laid out according to a pre-prepared plan and scheme.

At the initial stage of the construction of any brick buildings, the foundation is prepared - the foundation. For him, digging a pit, at the bottom of which a pillow of gravel and gravel is laid, everything is densely compacted.

The next step is the installation of formwork. The reinforcing structure can be welded or simply drawn from stainless steel wire. For the upper part of the foundation, a solution of sand and cement is made. If a deeper pit is needed, then it must be poured with two layers of different solutions: the lower one will consist of pebbles and cement, and the upper one will be made of sand and cement.

The reinforcing mesh must be drawn through all the layers. Level the upper part of the foundation with horizontal beacons, and leave to dry completely. On the upper part of the base lies a sheet of waterproofing, on which the first row of bricks later lies.

Main varieties

Barbecue fireplaces stoves, depending on their design and visual features, are divided into the following varieties:

  • Barbecue, the cottage with which will be an ideal and favorite place to relax, allows you to cook tasty and aromatic food right in the open. Such an installation is most often assembled from brick and includes a large open firebox, in which grids are installed on which food is prepared,
  • Barbecue grill is a combined design. However, if we talk about the brazier separately, it is represented by a brick or steel structure which completely lacks the so-called roof or upper part. Food is also cooked on the grill,
  • A barbecue project may include an element such as a smokehouse. The smokehouse can be hot or cold smoked. It is also suitable for cooking and smoking food with steam.

For masonry of any design, you need a kiln brick. You can assemble them all of the installation. However, due to its high cost, mainly the furnace compartment and the chimney pipe are formed from it, if it is provided for by the design.

Drawing and design

The barbecue gazebo will fully meet all your wishes and work without interruption, if you approach the process of its construction with knowledge of the matter and with maximum responsibility. Also, the furnace, the masonry of which is made according to a pre-compiled order, will ideally become in the planned place.

A barbecue project should also include features such as method and location. You can place the stove complex directly in the open-air garden, or in the gazebo, on the veranda or in the summer kitchen. It should be noted that the construction of a barbecue in the open air causes fewer problems, in contrast to the assembly of such a unit with the preliminary construction of a veranda or gazebo.

A barbecue, the brick for which is selected correctly, is pre-calculated and purchased with a small margin. You can calculate the number of bricks per kiln using the order on which each structural element of the complex will be displayed.

A barbecue, the cottage with which fully complies with all the standards and requirements of the fire safety will be the best option. It is important not to install a brick structure near other buildings or trees. Also, the location is chosen so that you have a simulated or natural protection from wind, rainfall and other natural anomalies.

It is necessary to provide for the presence of not only brick, but also accessories: grills, barbecue, grill, skewers and other equipment. It is important that they fit their size and securely fastened.

Also pay attention to the overall dimensions of the oven with a barbecue. Much depends on the site itself and the free area. Do not install a bulky design in a small or medium area. Also, a small stove in a large garden will simply be lost, and will not look as attractive as a bulky one.

Stage of construction

In order for the final result to fully meet all your expectations, it is necessary to use a concrete and thoughtful plan during the construction process. You can read the step-by-step guide on the implementation of preparatory and construction works further:

  1. Since the structure is being erected in the garden, regardless of its size and mass, it will be necessary to erect a foundation for it. Due to it, the heating unit will gain stability and reliability. In this case, it is best to give preference to a concrete foundation,
  2. Now we proceed to the construction and implementation of masonry work. If you have not encountered this process before, you must first get advice from an experienced master, or study the relevant literature. It will also take time to familiarize yourself with the features and how to execute your specific order,
  3. The main component of any solid fuel street or home design is the chimney. Through it, all products of combustion and decay of fuel are removed. The most complex and expensive is a brick chimney. As a more budgetary and simpler option, you can install steel. The category of modern ones includes a sandwich and modular chimneys with a minimum of elbows and thermal insulation that protects the structure from freezing and the formation of condensate,
  4. At the last stage, the fireplace is lined. It can be made with any materials and in a certain style.

You can familiarize yourself with the methods of facing street structures below.

Location and types

After you have finished the foundation, let it get natural shrinkage, dry it, put down the firebox with the portal and connect the installed chimney system, the steam has come to start the final and most pleasant stage.

Facing the firebox and portal of the fireplace, including the outdoor one, allows you to select and diversify your heating unit. The lining of the portal and the furnace can be performed in any style and direction.

The traditional classical style is always popular, and young people will surely like bold modern or high-tech. A country-style barbecue will fit into a rustic interior with a country or country house. Many people appreciate the refinement and high cost of decoration. In this case, you will definitely like Provence, fusion, art deco. If the garden is spacious enough and bright, you can supplement it with a brick stove in the Scandinavian style. For connoisseurs of simplicity and minimal decor, minimalism style is suitable.

It is best to set up a barbecue outside the open air, as as a result of year-round exposure to bricks and other materials, precipitation and other natural phenomena, the structure will begin to lose its attractiveness and strength. As an option, this is to make a small canopy or a massive roof.

Erection of a gazebo or a small extension, summer kitchen will not cause any special difficulties. This arrangement will fully justify itself and extend the life of your heating unit.

Also, before construction and preparation of the project, it is necessary not only to choose the exact location of the stove and its dimensions, but also the type of structure. The building can be located separately from the house, gazebo and other garden elements. Such barbecue is called island. Another variety is structures installed near walls or partitions. They are called wall and are usually more miniature than island ones. The third type of street complex is the corner. Such installations are very tiny and at the same time quite multifunctional and efficient, you can install them even on the smallest veranda or in the gazebo.

Selection of materials and cladding

A variety of materials can be used for cladding and assembling a firebox. If you are experienced in welding, the ideal solution for assembling a barbecue is a metal wall. It is possible to forge a lattice, hob or door from cast iron. The optimal material for the furnace and portal will be brick, and it should be not only red, but also for certain areas of fireclay furnace refractory. Such a material better withstands high temperatures and their sharp drop.

For facing the stove, the list of materials is getting larger at times. The most inexpensive option is to leave the brickwork unchanged. However, to give it a more well-groomed appearance, it is recommended to fill the joints between the bricks with a special compound. However, it is best not to leave the brick surface in its standard form, since moisture absorption is typical for bricks. In order to avoid destruction, treat the brick surface with a special protective varnish or paint composition.

Among the facing materials with low cost, decorative plaster and paint are especially popular. Both materials must be suitable for outdoor use and withstand high temperatures well.

As a more expensive option for facing a barbecue oven, you can use ceramic tiles, terracotta or artificial stone. The more expensive and most durable finish is marble, granite, talchochlorite and other natural stones.

Tiles or mosaics look beautiful and always stylish. With the help of these materials you can create a unique, inimitable image and a whole work of art, composition.
